Sorry we haven’t been posting much this week – a lot has
happened! Unfortunately NYC and NJ were in the eye of the storm. Although we
were not directly affected, friends, family, and coworkers were put out of
their homes due to destruction, no power, and flooding. We are donating clothes to help those
in Breezy Point, NY and volunteering at the Jersey Shore where we have a beach
house. You can help too by
donating to the RED CROSS to support those in need.
In case of emergency, are you prepared? We have put together a list of items that
might come in helpful if you are in distress.
1. Candles to light the way
2. Matches to ignite your candles
3. Bottled Water to stay hydrated
4. Flashlight and batteries incase you need to be mobile
5. Phone Card in case power goes out and you need a payphone – many cellphones
were not working during the storm and it was suggested that texting was better
form of communication than a phone call
6. Blankets to stay warm
7. Canned Food so you don’t starve
8. Rain boots for the hike
9. Gas for your car so you can evacuate with no issues
The most important thing to remember is that if your town is being evacuated,
don’t be a hero! Leave town before it is too late. Shelters are in place for
those who do not have family or friends outside of the area – seek them out and
head there.
I commend the Mayor and Governor of NY and the Governor of NJ for making
citizens aware of the events, updating them frequently, and sending help the
best they could. Although some areas are still crippled, many places are coming
back to life just as fast as they were put out.
